This policy explains how Connecting Deals Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects and uses your personal data when you use PriceComparePros.
1. Who we are
Connecting Deals Limited is the data controller for PriceComparePros. We are registered in England and Wales (Company number: 12070760) with our registered office at 71-75 Shelton Street, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. You can contact us via our contact form.
2. Data we collect
- Account data: name, email address, and encrypted password when you register.
- Usage data: pages visited, search queries, products viewed, and price alert settings.
- Click data: when you click through to a retailer, we record the click (with a hashed IP address — we never store raw IP addresses) for affiliate commission purposes.
- Communications: messages you send via our contact form.
- Cookies: see our Cookie Policy.
3. How we use your data
- To provide and improve the price comparison service.
- To send price drop alerts you have requested (only when you opt in).
- To track affiliate clicks and calculate retailer commissions.
- To detect and prevent fraud.
- To respond to your contact form enquiries.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
4. Legal basis for processing
- Contract: processing your account data to provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests: affiliate click tracking, fraud prevention, and service analytics.
- Consent: marketing emails (if you opt in) and non-essential cookies.
- Legal obligation: complying with applicable law.
5. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:
- Retailers: only click data (hashed, no personal identifiers) for commission tracking.
- Infrastructure providers: Railway (hosting), Vercel (web), Meilisearch (search), Redis (caching). All are contractually bound to process data only on our behalf.
- Resend: for transactional emails (price alerts). Only your email address is shared.
- Law enforcement: if required by law or to protect our legal rights.
6. Data retention
- Account data: retained while your account is active, then deleted within 30 days of account closure.
- Click data: retained for 2 years for commission and fraud purposes.
- Price history: retained indefinitely (it is anonymised product data, not personal data).
7. Your rights
Depending on where you are located, you may have rights under UK GDPR (UK), EU GDPR (Ireland and the EU), the Australian Privacy Act 1988, the South African POPIA, or other applicable data protection law. These rights typically include:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase your data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Restrict or object to processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us via our contact form. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — for example, the ICO (UK), the Data Protection Commission (Ireland), the OAIC (Australia), or the Information Regulator (South Africa).
8. Security
We use industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, encrypted passwords at rest using scrypt), access controls, and regular security reviews to protect your data. Raw IP addresses are never stored — only a one-way SHA-256 hash with a secret salt.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified to registered users by email. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
